John Spinda, PhD

John Spinda is a Scientist at Cognitive Performance Group with more than 20 years of experience across academic, commercial, and defense settings. He specializes in leadership performance and development, adaptive instruction, competency modeling and measurement, learning assessment, cognitive task analysis, data visualization, and quantitative and qualitative research methods. At CPG, he integrates behavioral science, statistical analysis, and applied research methods to develop practical tools and insights that strengthen performance and decision making in complex, high-stakes military environments.  

Prior to joining CPG, Dr. Spinda led primary research initiatives in the technology sector focused on channel sales performance and go-to-market strategy. He previously spent 15 years in higher education teaching a diverse portfolio of undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting research, and serving in academic leadership roles. His scholarship examining social psychology, communication, and media use resulted in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and scholarly book chapters, an edited book, and multiple top paper awards. Dr. Spinda earned his Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Kent State University.
